An icon of Saint Charbel… a light for Lebanon and the world!

The icon is divided into eight sections that revolve around its heart, the Syriac Maronite Antiochian cross, and its core, Saint Charbel, a son of the village of Bqaakafra, the guardian of the Valley of Saints, the valley of the Maronites and patriarchs in Qannoubine.

The cross is our pride and hope. It is a sign of God incarnate among us from birth to the empty tomb and ascension to Pentecost, which revived Charbel’s heart and, through the Holy Spirit, made it like the meek and humble heart of Jesus.

Saint Charbel wears his monastic habit, and the mantle of the priesthood, adorned with the stole of the Holy Sacraments, according to the authentic Maronite liturgical attire.

His eyes are fixed on the people of God, his left hand points to our mortal body, and his right hand, the blessing hand, is raised toward the Creator of heaven and earth. His feet are firmly planted on the rock of Qannoubine, like Peter the Rock.

The four inner sections of the icon:

Section 1: Above Charbel’s head, heaven is depicted, the home of eternity, radiating with the Holy Trinity—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, one in essence and undivided.

The faithful servant of the Lord, Saint Charbel, is shaded in his three monastic vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience, represented by three semicircles in the graduated colors of the sky blue at the top of the icon.

Section 2: To the right of Charbel, a realistic depiction of his monastic work with his fellow monks who joyfully endured hardships, eagerly awaiting a complete and purposeful meeting with the face of the Lord, aimed at achieving holiness.

In this section, the fragrant cedars of Lebanon stand tall in the cedar forests of this country, a sign of resilience on earth and in faith.

Section 3: To the left of Charbel is Charbel’s lamp, which he lit with water instead of oil, and his daily nourishment, the mystery of the Holy Eucharist, represented by the cup of salvation and the bread descended from heaven on the altar of the earth. This is the active power of Charbel, who taught us through his silence that our Mass is a right for us, not an obligation, and through this right, we become holy, purified, and blessed.

The four outer sections of the icon:

Section 1 (lower left): This represents his childhood, marked by worship and divine love in constant prostration in the caves of his hometown, Bqaakafra, and his unwavering trust in the Mother of God, our Mother, the Virgin Mary, who was the intercessor of his path until his last breath, listening to her call to the servants at the wedding at Cana: “Do whatever he tells you.”

Section 2 (lower right): The Hermitage of Annaya, Charbel’s stronghold, is armed with the weapons of salvation, the cross, and the Holy Gospel. He is kneeling on a hard reed mat, identifying with fasting and prayer, accompanied by the icon of Joseph the Just, whom the Lord chose to serve the Holy Family. His parents had chosen the name Joseph the Virgin for him before he chose the name Charbel for his consecration, and Joseph was a good helper, guide, and example for him on the path to holiness.

With Charbel, the Hermitage of Annaya became a basilica of gifts and graces and an inexhaustible spring of miracles.

Section 3 (upper right): This shows Charbel’s abundant work in the vineyard of the earth and heaven. It is the vineyard of the Lord who called us to be its fruitful branches.

He worked tirelessly without greed to taste the fruit, content with praising all that the Lord created and blessing all that the Lord entrusted him to serve.

Charbel plowed his earthly paradise with his sweat, prepared it with his hoe, and sowed divine virtues: faith, hope, and love, the greatest of which is love, as the mighty Apostle of the Church, Paul, taught him.

Section 4 (upper right): This section represents the Monastery of Annaya today, which embraced the miraculous body of Charbel. He watered its land with his blood and sweat, and this sanctuary became a beacon for Lebanon and the world and a refuge for all who seek help—the poor, the deprived, and the suffering of all religions and nations.

The Monastery of Annaya is a journey of a perpetual offering, walked by people of various nations, looking to the greatness of the Creator glorified in his saints.

 أيقونة القديس شربل… سراج لبنان والعالم!

للأيقونة ٨ أقسام تتمحور حول قلبها وهو الصليب الماروني السرياني الإنطاكي وحول قالبها وهو شربل القديس إبن بلدة بقاعكفرا حارسة وادي القديسين، وادي الموارنة والبطاركة في قنوبين.

الصليب هو فخرنا ورجانا وهو علامة قوة الله المتجسد بيننا منذ الولادة حتى القبر الفارغ والصعود فالعنصرة التي أحيت قلب شربل وجعلته بروح الله الأقدس كقلب يسوع الوديع والمتواضع.

يرتدي شربل القديس زيّه الرهباني وتلفه جبّة الكهنوت المزينة بِبطرشيل الأسرار المقدسة حسب الزي الماروني الليتورجي الأصيل.
عيناه شاخصتان على شعب الله ويده اليسرى تدل على جسدنا الفاني ويده اليُمنى المُبارِكة ترتفع نحو الباري خالق السماء والأرض .
ورجلاله ثابتتان على صخر قنوبين، على مثال بطرس الصخرة.

أقسام الأيقونة الداخلية الأربعة:

• القسم ١ فوق رأس شربل،

، ترتسم السماء، دار الخلود، مُشعّة بثالوثها القدوس، الأب والإبن والروح القدس وهو الواحد في الجوهر غير المنقسم
يُظلّل خادم الرب الأمين، شربل القديس في نذوره الرهبانية الثلاث الفقر والعفة والطاعة والمتمثلة بثلاث أنصاف الدوائر المتدرجة بألوان السماء الزرقاء في أعلى الأيقونة.

• القسم ٢ عن يمين شربل

صورة واقع عمله الرهباني مع إخوته الرهبان الذين كابدوا المشقات بفرح واستعداد للقاء وجه الرب بالإستعداد الكامل والهادف إلى القداسة.

وفيه أرز لبنان الطيب الشذا المنتصب في غابات أرز هذا الوطن علامة الصمود في الأرض والإيمان.

* القسم ٣ عن يسار شربل

مصباح شربل الذي أضاءه بالماء عوض الزيت وزاده اليومي، سر القربان الأقدس الممثل بكأس الخلاص والخبز النازل من السماء على مذبح الأرض وهذه هي قوة شربل الفاعلة الذي علّمنا بصمته أن قداسنا حق لنا وليس واجب علينا وبهذا الحق نتقدّس ونتطهر ونتبارك.

أقسام الأيقونة الأربع الخارجية:

القسم ١ عن يسار شربل من الأسفل:

يمثل طفولته المميزة بالعبادة للرب والعشق الإلهي في السجود الدائم في مغارة جرود بلدته الأم بقاعكفرا وثقته الدائمة بوالدة الإله أمنا مريم العذراء التي كانت شفيعة درب عمر حتى النفس الأخير مُصغيًا إلى دعوتها للخَدَم في عرس قانا :” إفعلوا ما يأمركم به “.

القسم ٢ عن يمين شربل من الأسفل:

محبسة عنايا، قلعة شربل المدججة بأسلحة الخلاص الصليب والإنجيل المقدس جاثيا على ركبتيه على أريكة القصب القاسي متماهيًا بالصوم والصلاة ترافقه أيقونة يوسف الصدّيق الذي أصطفاه الرب لخدمة العائلة المقدسة وقد إختار له أهله اسم يوسف البتول قبل أن يختار لتكرّسه اسم شربل فكان له خير معين ودليل ومثال على درب القداسة.
محبسة عنايا صارت مع شربل بازيليك العطايا والنعَم ونبع العجائب التي لا تنضب وفرتها.

القسم ٣ عن يمين شربل من عَلو:

يُظهر عمل شربل الوافر في كرم الأرض والسماء. إنها كرمة الرب الذي دعانا أن نكون أغصانها المثمرة.
تعب وكد وجهد بلا ملل دون طمعٍ بتذوق الثمر مكتفيًا بتسبيح كل ما خلقه الرب ومباركة كل ما قد ائتمنه الرب على خدمته
جنة شربل الأرضية حرثها بعرقه وأهّلها بمعوله وزرعها فضائل إلهيّة، إيمان ورجاء ومحبة وأعظمهن المحبة كما علّمه رسول الكنيسة بولس الجبّار.

القسم ٤ عن يمين شربل من علو:

يمثل دير عنايا اليوم الذي احتضن جثمان شربل العجائبي وقد أروى أرضه بدمائه وعرقه فبات هذا الصرح إشعاعًا للبنان والعالم ومرجعًا لكل اللائذين والمساكين والمحرومين والمتألمين من كل الأديان والأوطان .
دير عنايا، مسيرة قربان دائم تمشيها شعوب الأرض بتنوعها شاخصة إلى عظمة الخالق المتمجّد بقديسيه.
