Christ’s Birth and Resurrection: A Single Project of Salvation
This unique icon, created by artist Martine Boutros with a concept and explanation by Father Farid Saab, beautifully embodies our salvation.
The icon shows that Christ’s birth and resurrection are one inseparable reality: our resurrection flows from His birth, and our new birth is found in His resurrection. The artwork unifies these two holy mysteries in a single image. The infant Christ is swaddled in a manger, which symbolizes the tomb that would later enshroud Him. The white swaddling clothes are like a burial shroud, and the manger becomes an empty tomb, signifying the Resurrection. In turn, His empty tomb becomes a manger for our new life with Him. This is the first time this icon has been created to unify our faith in a God who was incarnated for our resurrection and rose for our birth.
